Folk Galore magazine

Folk Galore, published by CPL Music Group (Christian Pliefke), celebrates the unconventional side of folk music. The magazine takes readers on a journey through the vibrant sounds of Northern and Eastern Europe, the Middle East, and other captivating regions – from remote Russian provinces to Mediterranean coastlines. Its editorial mix embraces folk, global, and world music, spotlighting artists and traditions rarely found in mainstream publications.

I am responsible for the visual and editorial presentation of Folk Galore. My work includes developing a distinct visual style that reflects the magazine’s eclectic and international spirit, as well as designing engaging layouts that balance rich photography with in-depth features. I ensure that each issue communicates both cultural authenticity and modern editorial appeal.

Key contributions:

  • Concept development and visual identity for the magazine
  • Editorial layout design with a strong focus on imagery and readability
  • Integration of diverse cultural elements into a cohesive design language
  • Collaboration with editors and music experts to bring content to life

Since July 2025, Folk Galore has been part of the archives of the Institute for European Ethnomusicology at the University of Cologne, preserving its unique contribution to cultural and musical heritage.
The magazine is available both in print and as a digital copy via CPL Music Shop.
